What happens when a Posting Ends?

When a posting comes to a end what happens then. It doesn't go away. Any info on this.

there is a toggle on the Settings page for what action to take with expired listings.

Hi Arron,
 
I have had the Action for Canceled / Expired Listings set to 3 Make Listing Inactive but nothing happens by the end date for that listing. Does the Make Listing Inactive only work for paid ads or should it work on all ads?

My paid ads are switching to "inactive" on thier own.  I had a guy sign up 3 weeks ago, paid and today sends me an email and his account was "inactive".  This is not the first time.  Any ideas what might cause this Arron?  Thx!
